Community

Peter has had a lifelong connection with community sports, particularly AFL, hockey, and athletics, as well as skiing and netball. In addition to his medical role with these organisations, Peter has had administrative and leadership roles ever since being elected president of his football cub at the age of 21!

University Blues Football Club

His involvement with the amateur football club University Blues spans over 50 years, starting as a player in 1972. He has since taken on numerous leadership roles, including serving as President from 1974 to 1979 and again in 1983-84 after returning from overseas. A Life Member since 1978, Peter continues to support the club as a sponsor and by coordinating the medical services for the teams. Alongside long-time contributor Bob Girdwood, Peter celebrated the club’s hard-earned premiership after decades of dedication. Beyond football, Peter represented Melbourne University in skiing competitions, serving as both captain and university champion in 1972 and President of the Ski Club in 1973. He also competed in elite schoolboy tennis and cricket, showcasing his passion and talent for sport across disciplines.

Peter has been involved at all levels of hockey with admin, leadership and coaching roles at Premier League clubs TEM and Powerhouse as well as state and national teams. He is a former Board Member of Hockey Australia.

Athletics

Peter has been involved with Athletics in Australia at state, national and international level. He was the Victorian state team doctor from 1988 to 1994, national team doctor from1991 to 1996, national team manager from 1998 to 2000 culminating in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and national selector form 2006 to 2009. In 2023, Peter was the Chief Medical Officer for the World Cross Country Championships held in Bathurst. In 2021 Peter was awarded Life Membership of Athletics Australia.

Peter's Contributions to Sports

Peter is a past recipient of the Chris Brown Award, the highest honour the club can bestow. He is sen here celebrating the 2019 Premiership with fellow Blues stalwart Bob Girdwood. Between the two of them they have kept the Blues at the top of VAFA football for 50 years.
